Introducing HeartCrafted — a new series that captures the essence of motherhood.
Since becoming a mother myself, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the importance of commemorating and symbolizing this profound role in one’s life. This realization inspired me to collaborate with other mothers, offering them the opportunity to co-design a piece that embodies their unique journey.
The series begins with a collaboration with my dear friend and talented artist, Myrsini Alexandridi. Myrsini and I go way back to the beginning of our architectural careers in the Netherlands. During that time, we both nurtured hobbies we cherished—she would hand-paint tiles, and I would handcraft jewelry, both in our little apartments after work. It has been a true pleasure to witness her blossom into the incredible artist she is today. I’ve also had the honor of creating jewelry for significant milestones in her life, including her engagement and wedding rings.
Together, for this series, we crafted a ring inspired by her intricate tile-work, reflecting her love for family in a truly personal way. It feels only fitting that she is the first guest of the HeartCrafted series, marking a new milestone in her life with a piece of jewelry that celebrates the journey of motherhood.
How has being a mother influenced your work or creativity ?
Motherhood has been a significant milestone in my life. While I don't feel that it has drastically changed my work, I've noticed that I'm currently experiencing some of my most creative moments. Though I'm not entirely sure if becoming a mother directly sparked this surge in creativity, I do believe that it has greatly influenced how effective and organized I’ve become in my work. Motherhood has taught me to prioritize, manage my time more efficiently, and approach challenges with a new perspective, which has undoubtedly enhanced both my creativity and productivity.
Myrsini (Greek, born in 1991) was originally trained as an architect and it’s her architectural background that shaped her art practice. She is currently based in Stockholm and working as an interior architect and independent artist since 2018. Her work focuses on painting bespoke ceramic tiles, vases, and plates and she is always experimenting with materials and techniques.
