How Much Do Wedding Rings Cost? What Determines Their Price?

Wedding rings are perhaps the only pieces of jewelry we choose with the intention of wearing them every day, for the rest of our lives.

And although choosing them is a deeply personal experience, there's one very practical question almost every couple asks us: How much do wedding rings cost?

The answer isn't always straightforward. Two pairs of wedding rings that look quite similar can have very different prices, depending on the materials, dimensions, and details of their construction.

Take the two pairs pictured below, for example. At first glance, their designs look quite similar, but their dimensions make a significant difference.

  • Left: A pair of 14K gold wedding rings, with a 3.5 mm wide women's band and a 5 mm wide men's band. Price for the pair: €1,830.

  • Right: A pair also made from 14K gold, but with a 2 mm wide women's band and a 3.5 mm wide men's band. Price for the pair: €1,400.

Although the designs are similar, the difference in width significantly affects the amount of gold required to make them and, consequently, their final price.

In this guide, we'll explain what influences the cost of wedding rings, helping you make an informed decision when choosing your own.

What Is the Starting Price for a Pair of Gold Wedding Rings?

At AR.M, a pair of 14K gold wedding rings starts at approximately €1,400, depending on the design and dimensions.

From there, the price is shaped by your choices. A simple, delicate band and a wider ring featuring a distinctive texture or gemstones require different amounts of materials and craftsmanship.

It's also worth remembering that the market price of gold fluctuates over time, influencing production costs and the final price of gold jewelry.

What Determines the Price of a Wedding Ring?

1. Gold Purity: 14K vs. 18K

Our wedding rings are crafted in either 14K or 18K solid gold.

18K gold contains a higher percentage of pure gold (75%, compared to 58.5% in 14K), which naturally influences its price.

Both options are suitable for everyday wear. 14K gold is generally harder and may offer greater resistance to scratches, depending on the alloy composition and finish.

Ultimately, the choice comes down to your personal preferences, the design, and your budget.

2. The Width and Thickness of Your Rings

A 2 mm wide wedding band generally requires less gold than a 5 mm wide band of similar thickness and ring size.

Even small differences in dimensions can significantly affect the final weight and, therefore, the price.

If you're working with a specific budget, we're always happy to explore adjustments to the dimensions that can reduce the amount of gold required and, consequently, the cost.

However, there are certain limits we're not willing to compromise on.

An excessively thin wedding ring may bend or lose its original shape over time. At AR.M, we care deeply about creating designs that are timeless, not only aesthetically but also in terms of their construction.

That's why, if we believe a ring is too delicate for your finger size or the particular design, we'll recommend a more durable alternative. We'd rather decline a particular construction than create a piece of jewelry we don't believe will stand the test of time.

3. Design and Craftsmanship

A classic, smooth wedding band has different production requirements from a pair featuring textured surfaces, sculptural shapes, or details that connect the two rings.

At AR.M, we're particularly drawn to designs in which two rings become different yet complementary parts of one shared story.

4. Gemstones and Personal Details

A small diamond, a colored gemstone, or a meaningful engraving can add a deeply personal touch to a design.

Depending on your choices, these details can also influence the final cost.

Do You Need to Have a Specific Budget Before Your Appointment?

Not necessarily. However, having a general idea of how much you'd like to spend can be helpful.

During your consultation, we can explore different widths, materials, and design possibilities to find something that suits both your personal style and your budget.

Wedding Rings Designed to Tell Your Story

To us, the value of a wedding ring lies not only in the material it's made from, but also in the meaning it holds for the person wearing it.

From a simple, timeless pair to two distinctive rings connected by a small, almost secret detail, our goal is to create jewelry you'll love wearing every day.

And there's something else worth considering: unlike many of the expenses surrounding a wedding, your rings are something that will stay with you long after the celebration itself.

Gold is a precious metal with lasting material value, although its market price can fluctuate. But the true value of your wedding rings also lies in everything they'll come to represent as the years go by.
